Disney Movies Account for 42 Percent of Summer Box Office

When the summer movie season started this year, most of the media headlines zeroed in on the fact that several films expected to do solid business failed to deliver. Following the opening weekends of films such as The Fall Guy and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, it seemed like it was all doom and gloom for theatrical releases, but that changed when Disney-owned 20th Century Studios released Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes to a stellar debut. From there, Disney completely kicked the door down with the record-breaking opening for Inside Out 2, and its success only continued with Deadpool & Wolverine and Alien: Romulus. Due to these overwhelming box office successes, Disney is responsible for a big chunk of theatrical revenues this summer.
